As a business owner, you make lots of decisions every day, big ones and small ones, easy ones and tough ones. But the past few months I have been struggling with a particularly tough one:
What kind of car to get next?
Before I tell you why I am looking for a new car and the possible candidates, let me tell you about my car history and my current cars.
My Car History
These are the cars I have owned in the past:
- 1987 – 1990 : Renault 4
- 1990 – 1997 : Ford Fiesta
- 2000 – 2002 : Peugeot 205
- 2003 – 2005 : Audi TT
- 2005 – 2007 : Porsche 911 Turbo (996 model)
Check out the full story of my car history (with pictures) here.
My Current Cars
These are the two cars I own at the moment:

The one on the left is my Lotus Exige, in the special Lotus color Krypton Green. I have owned it since April 2008. The black one on the right is my Porsche 911 Turbo, the 997 model. I got that one in February 2007.
Why a new car?
I still love both of the above cars. The Turbo is very fast, comfortable and suitable for every day use. The Exige is fast, noisy (in a good way) and loads of fun, especially with the top off.
In fact, Syts and I love driving with the top off so much, that we started looking for one ultimate car to replace both the Turbo and the Exige. This would have to be a convertible, as fast and comfortable as the Turbo and as much fun as the Exige (and preferably generating the same amount of noise
)
The candidates
Here’s the candidates I have been looking at:
Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet (997 facelift, 2010 model)
The most logical choice, because I love the Turbo Coupe so much. The upcoming 2010 facelift model looks amazing, and is even faster than the current one.

Lamborgini Gallardo LP560 Spider
I love the extreme looks of the LP560 model.

Ferrari F430 Spider
Been around for a while, but still a great looking convertible.

Ferrari California
The new kid on the block, with a metal folding roof.

Aston Martin DB9 Volante
A classic beauty, with a 6 litre V12. Yes, this is the one the guys drive in Entourage.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster
The baby Aston, just as good looking and the best sounding car ever.

My decision
I have made my decision last week and have purchased one of the above candidates, trading in my Turbo. However, I won’t tell you which one yet ![]()
The winner is a new car and a showroom model, so no waiting list. If all goes well, I can pick it up within two weeks. I’ll post pictures as soon as possible.
Based on my car history, can you guess which one I have chosen?

At least, your car history tells us, that it was not your car, which attracted your wife!
I’m guessing the Lamborghini Spider – each car you’ve had in the past has been sleeker and more exotic than the last, and you can’t get much more exotic than the Lamborghini.
Having had two Porsches as my last two cars I would personally get the Porsche. Great cars for everyday driving and a lot of fun in the track.
Now since I believe the 2010 Turbo isn’t yet on dealers, I would aim for the Ferrari as the one you got.
Btw, since you got the Turbo 2 years ago, why change so soon? I’ve had my last Porsche for 4 years (bough new) and only sold it recently because I got a great offer and was using it very little (29000 Km in 4 years).
Hi Steven,
Something more exclusive, something beautiful, and fast, and comfortable and better sounding.
I still love the Turbo Coupe, but we really want a fast convertible now. And I have already owned it for two and half years now, that’s longer than I had my previous Turbo or the TT
And I am ready for something else, something less “german”
Pretty sure you bought the V8 Vantage
The Porsche 997 Turbo convertible will be the one. The rest (except the Astons) are notfor daily use suitable. Why not an Aston? Well’ you allready owned a Porsche before this one so why not another one?
One more vote for the V8 Vantage, although I prefer the motorboat sound of the DB9’s V12 when idling
Hopelijk niet 1 van de astons: prachtig om naar te kijken, maar alles behalve degelijk.
I’m curious what you bought. And could you tell me the specs of your current turbo? And where did you trade in your Turbo?
I guess it’s a ferrari or lambo although those are harder for everyday use..
You just bought the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster
the sound of the car is ace!
erm, on 2nd thought, you went for the V12 and comfier ride, so it’s the DB9
But what car did you buy? I guess it’s not a 2CV?
Didn’t you consider the new Maserati GranTurismo Spyder (The GranCabrio
If you’re smart you waited for the Audi R8 V10 Spyder, but I guess not considering the fact that you’ve already bought the car. I think you went for the California as it has a hardtop and convertible in one. We’ll see……
m.d. : The GranTurismo Spyder would have been a candidate, but as far as I know it hasn’t even been officially presented yet. Will take a while before it is available.
Bungy: There is no such thing as an Audi R8 V10 Spyder
At least, not for a long time. Maybe for my next car, after this…
OK, next car in 2 years
Give me a call by then, because I think it’s a great car!

Click on the website and you’ll see a nice R8 spider
This coming Monday it has been 2 weeks. So when will we see the pictures of the new Lambo?
Ik zou die rode ferrari doen. Wel jammer dat je lange haren niet meer waaien in de wind.
Kwam toevallig je naam tegen, maar dit is heel wat anders dan rozen knippen met Sjaak en Ruud.
I will be able to pick up the new car next weekend. It’s not a Lambo though
OK, so next weekend we’ll finally see the pics of the Aston. I know you’re not going to buy a F430 when they are planning a new model next year, so it might also be the California (to please the woman, haha).
We’ll see next weekend.
I think you bought the AM V8 Vantage Roadster.
Great car, my dad owns one. Love the sound…
Today is D-day?
No new car yet. The car has been ready for 10 days, but no license plates yet.
Tomorrow!
Pics?
Did I miss something or haven’t you revealed the big secret yet? If so, why not?
You missed something…
What did I miss? haha I must be losing it?
Nevermind, I finally came to my senses and finally found it
